Lanes Closed after DUI Crash on 10 Freeway near 51st Avenue in Phoenix

PHOENIX, AZ (July 13, 2020) – A woman sustained injuries and a man was arrested following a DUI crash on 10 Freeway, early Monday morning.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the incident happened at about 1:00 AM. Due to unknown circumstances, a car crashed into an attenuator controlling traffic in the HOV lane leading to Loop 202.

Then, the car veered across all eight lanes of traffic before striking a cement shoulder near 51st Avenue.

Emergency responders transported a female passenger to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Public safety troopers arrested the driver, identified as a Phoenix man, on suspicion of driving under the influence, criminal damage, and aggravated assault.

Officers temporarily closed the westbound lanes on 10 Freeway until midday.

DPS continues to investigate the crash. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
