Head-On Crash near Florence Kills One, Causes Black Hill Fire
FLORENCE, AZ (July 13, 2020) – A car accident on Highway 79 killed at least one person on Friday and caused a brush fire near Florence, officials said.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety reported that the crash happened at milepost 143. It involved three vehicles, including a semi-truck hauling hay.
Information on what caused the crash and how it happened was not immediately available. However, DPS said that the incident caused a brush fire on Black Hill, which burned about 123 acres of land on the east side of Highway 79.
Meanwhile, officials had both directions of Highway 79 shut down between Highway 60 and Arizona Farms Road. The highway reopened after the fire had been contained.
The investigation of this three-vehicle crash is ongoing.
