Joseph Haddad and Brenda Haddad Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on 5 Freeway [LOS BANOS, CA]

Couple Dead in Los Banos Crash on 5 Freeway near John Erreca Rest Area

 
LOS BANOS, CA (July 11, 2020) – A couple who died in a multi-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon in Los Banos has been identified by authorities.
 
The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. on 5 Freeway near the John Erreca Rest Area.
 
According to the CHP, the northbound traffic of the freeway had slowed and eventually came to a stop in the area. A big rig failed to stop and rear-ended a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu occupied by the victims. The Malibu rolled into another vehicle, which triggered a chain-reaction crash.
 
Deputies arrived and pronounced the two people in the Malibu dead at the scene. They are husband and wife.
 
The Merced County Sheriff Coroner’s Office identified the victims as 63-year-old Joseph Haddad, the driver, and 53-year-old Brenda Haddad, the passenger. Both were residents of Contra Costa County.
 
A memorial fund for Mr. and Mrs. Haddad has been set up by the family.
 
One other driver was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries, the CHP said.
 
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
