Hit-and-Run Driver Causes Six-Vehicle Crash on Highway 101
HUMBOLDT, CA (July 9, 2020) – Two people sustained injuries in a hit-and-run crash on Highway 101, early Thursday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 5:00 PM. A black BMW sedan lost control and spun out of the roadway. Then, in an attempt to avoid the BMW, five other vehicles collided near Indianola Cutoff.
Emergency crews transported one driver to St. Joseph Hospital for treatment of major injuries. Another driver needed hospitalization after sustaining minor injuries. It is unknown whether or not other drivers involved suffered injuries in the collision.
The vehicles involved sustained significant damage and had to be towed from the scene.
As per reports, the driver of the BMW did not stop to render aid and immediately fled the area.
CHP continues to investigate the cause of the crash. Anyone with information about the identity of the hit-and-run driver should call the Humboldt Area CHP Office at (707) 822-5981 as soon as possible. Authorities will release more details once they become available.
