2 Killed in Car Crash on 8 Freeway [Jacumba Hot Springs, CA]

Two Dead, One Injured after Jacumba Hot Springs Crash on 8 Freeway

 
JACUMBA HOT SPRINGS, CA (July 10, 2020) — Two people were killed and one injured following a car crash on 8 Freeway on Thursday, July 9.
 
The double-fatal collision happened on the eastbound side of 8 Freeway near Old Highway 80 in Jacumba just before 2:30 p.m.
 
According to Cal Fire, a car veered out of control, rolled over and caught fire.
 
Two of the occupants died at the scene of the crash around a mile west of the Imperial County line, said Thomas Shoots, a fire captain.  Medics airlifted a third person to a trauma center for treatment of critical injuries.
 
Further information about the victims, including ages and genders, were not immediately available.
 
Four California Highway Patrol officers who saved the victims received treatments at the scene. They apparently had minor respiratory problems due to smoke inhalation, Shoots stated.
 
The accident caused a complete closure of the freeway in the area for at least an hour, Cal Fire said.
