11-Year-Old Killed in Suspected DUI Accident on 5 Freeway [Glenn County, CA]

11-Year-Old Boy Dead, Driver Arrested in DUI Accident on 5 Freeway

 
GLENN COUNTY, CA (July 11, 2020) – An 11-year-old boy was killed in a possible DUI accident on 5 Freeway, Saturday morning.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened just south of County Road 60. An SUV was traveling behind a semi-truck when, for unknown reasons, it slammed into the rear of the truck.
 
The impact of the collision caused the semi-truck driver to lose control. As a result, the truck overturned and blocked the northbound lanes.
 
Emergency responders pronounced an 11-year-old boy, who was in the back seat of the SUV, dead at the scene.
 
A second passenger, an adult female, was airlifted to a hospital for treatment of major injuries.
 
The SUV driver, identified as a 49-year-old San Jose man, sustained minor injuries. Authorities later arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence.
 
As per reports, the semi-truck driver, identified as a 58-year-old man from Washington, also sustained minor injuries and needed hospitalization.
 
Officers shut down affected areas for more than eight hours to make way for clearing operations and an investigation.
 
CHP continues to investigate the fatal crash. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
