Semi Truck Crash on 5 Freeway at Via De La Valle Kills One

 
DEL MAR, CA (July 11, 2020) – A woman was killed following a semi truck crash early Saturday morning on 5 Freeway in Del Mar, CHP officials said.
 
The crash happened around 2:15 a.m. just south of Via De La Valle.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the woman was driving her car northbound on the freeway when she struck the semi truck for unknown reasons. The car was careened down an embankment following the impact.
 
First responders extricated the woman from the wreckage and transported her to a nearby hospital.
 
Despite life-saving efforts, the woman did not survive and was pronounced dead. Authorities did not release her identity pending notification of next of kin.
 
The crash left the car’s engine blocking on the freeway, causing a second crash involving an AMR ambulance, though no one in that vehicle was injured, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue.
 
CHP officials are still investigating the incident.
