Fran Cordova Killed in High-Speed Crash on Highway 12 [SANTA ROSA, CA]

Speeding Driver Dies after Crashing into Trees on Highway 12 near Dutton Avenue

 
SANTA ROSA, CA (July 7, 2020) – A driver who died in a high-speed crash last Tuesday morning in Santa Rosa has been identified by authorities.
 
The crash happened around 10:30 a.m. on Highway 12 near Dutton Avenue.
 
Witnesses told officials that a black 2012 BMW 3 Series was speeding on the highway at over 65 mph when it lost control as it merged from the left lane to the right. It drifted onto the shoulder and slammed into a metal guardrail, shaving off 20 feet of metal. It then struck two trees before resting off the side of the highway.
 
Rescue personnel extricated the BMW driver from the seat of the car and tried to revive her, but she died at the scene.
 
Authorities identified the victim as Fran Cordova, 64, a city resident. She was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
 
The CHP is awaiting a toxicology test to determine if Cordova was under the influence of an intoxicating substance.
 
An investigation into this fatal crash is ongoing.
