Albert Arroyo and Margarita Aranda Killed in Head-On Crash on Highway 18 [LUCERNE VALLEY, CA]

Morning Head-On Crash on Highway 18 in Lucerne Valley Kills Two and Injures Four

 
LUCERNE VALLEY, CA (July 3, 2020) – The two people who died in a head-on crash last Friday morning in Lucerne Valley has been identified by authorities.
 
The crash happened around 6:40 a.m. on July 3, on Highway 18 near Custer Road.
 
Albert Arroyo, 37, of Nuevo was driving a black Nissan Altima eastbound on the highway. For unknown reasons, he crossed the centerline and went into the path of a silver Mazda CX-5, driven by a 69-year-old Lucerne Valley man.
 
Both drivers drifted to the shoulder of the roadway to avoid each other but ended up colliding head-on.
 
As a result, Arroyo suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. A front-seat passenger of the Mazda, 67-year-old Margarita Raygoza Aranda of Lucerne Valley, also died at the scene.
 
The Mazda driver suffered critical injuries. Paramedics rushed him to Loma Linda University Medical Center for treatment.
 
Arroyo’s three passengers suffered moderate injuries and were all taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center.
 
Investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident. All occupants were wearing their seat belts.
