Melina Salcedo Killed, Danny Shiflett Injured in DUI Crash on Highway 20 at Mock Road [Okanogan, WA]

Jose Orozco Charged with DUI Following Fatal Crash in Okanogan

 
OKANOGAN, WA (July 10, 2020) – The authorities are investigating a fatal DUI crash in Okanogan, which killed 18-year-old Melina Salcedo and injured a 46-year-old man.
 
According to the Washington State Patrol troopers, the incident happened on Friday at about 12:30 p.m.
 
22-year-old Jose Orozco was driving eastbound on Highway 20 with Salcedo as his passenger. When Orozco’s vehicle entered a slight curve in the roadway, it crossed the center line at Mock Road. Another car that was headed west swerved to avoid Orozco’s car but was hit head-on. Both vehicles rested in the westbound lanes.
 
Paramedics pronounced Salcedo dead at the scene. Meanwhile, Orozco was airlifted to Central Washington Hospital. Both Salcedo and Orozco were not wearing seat belts, the troopers said.
 
The 73-year-old driver and the 19-year-old passenger in the other car did not have injuries. However, a second passenger identified as 46-year-old Danny Shiflett was transported to Mid Valley Hospital with unknown injuries.
 
Meanwhile, the troopers said Orozco faces charges of driving under the influence, vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, and possession of felony drugs.
