Gerald Simmons Killed after Truck Crashes into Upper Twin Lake [Mono County, CA]

Gerald Christopher Simmons Dead after Accident in Mono County

 
MONO COUNTY, CA (July 8, 2020) – Authorities identified 61-year-old Gerald Christopher Simmons of Las Vegas as the driver killed after crashing into a Mono County lake, Wednesday morning.
 
According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened at about 7:50 AM. A 2013 Chevrolet pickup was heading west on Twin Lakes Road at about 30 to 40 miles per hour when Simmons suffered an unknown medical event.
 
The truck then veered from the roadway, went down a steep embankment, and crashed into Upper Twin Lake. A male passenger in the truck self-extricated and swam to shore.
 
As per reports, the truck came to rest about 75 feet to 100 feet from the shore and about 19 feet down. The Mono County Sheriff’s Department boat unit responded and recovered Simmons, who was still secured in the driver’s seat.
 
Investigators ruled out alcohol and drugs as factors in the fatal crash. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
