Stanley Porterfield Fatally Injured after Bicycle vs Motorcycle Crash

COULEE CITY, WA (July 10, 2020)75-year-old Stanley Porterfield of Coulee City died when a motorcycle hit him while he was cycling Sunday, July 5.

The Washington State Patrol said the crash took place on Highway 17, near Moore Road East, about 11 miles north of Soap Lake.

WSP said, just after 10 a.m., Porterfield rode his bike on the southbound shoulder. Then he tried to cross the highway onto Moore Road. After that, a southbound motorcycle ridden by 55-year-old Andrew Reeves, of Phoenix, struck him.

First responders rushed Porterfield by air ambulance to Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee. Yet he did not survive.

Medics also transported Reeves to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake with unspecified injuries.

WSP said it does not appear that drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash. However, driver inattention may have been a factor.

Reeves is not expected to face any charges in the accident.
