Eric Wise and Irene Velasquez Injured in Fatal Head-On Crash on Highway 65 [STRATHMORE, CA]

Ivanhoe Woman Dies in Strathmore Head-On Crash on Highway 65

 
STRATHMORE, CA (July 4, 2020) – A woman was killed and two others were injured following a head-on crash Saturday in Strathmore.
 
CHP officials responded to the scene on Highway 65, just north of Avenue 200.
 
A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder was traveling northbound on Highway 65 at an unknown speed. At the same time, a 2019 GMC Sierra was heading southbound on the highway at approximately 65 mph.
 
For unknown reasons, the Nissan traveled across the center median, entered the southbound lanes of the highway and collided head-on with the GMC.
 
As a result, the female driver of the Nissan was ejected from the SUV onto the roadway. Paramedics rushed her to Sierra View Medical Center, where she later died. Authorities only identified her as a 27-year-old Ivanhoe resident.
 
Meanwhile, the driver of the GMC, 56-year-old Eric Wise, and his passenger, 51-year-old Irene Velasquez, suffered moderate injuries. Both were Visalia residents. A ground ambulance took them to Kaweah Delta Medical Center for treatment.
 
CHP officials did not rule out alcohol and drugs as factors in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
