Fatal Bicycle Hit-and-Run Crash on Oak Street in Bakersfield

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (July 7, 2020) – A bicyclist died following a hit-and-run crash Tuesday morning in Bakersfield, police said.
 
The crash happened around 5:15 a.m. in the 300 block of Oak Street.
 
According to the Bakersfield Police Department, a man had been towing a shopping cart on his bicycle when a vehicle struck him. The driver then took off without rendering aid.
 
The bicyclist sustained major injuries and died at the scene. His identity was not immediately available pending notification of his family members.
 
The suspect vehicle was described as a tan or silver 2000-06 GMC Yukon XL SUV with front-end damage.
 
Police asked anyone with information on the vehicle’s location to call BPD at 661-327-7111, or the Kern County Secret Witness hotline at (661) 322-4040.
