Santa Barbara Officer Injured in Motorcycle Accident on Foothill Road [Santa Barbara, CA]

SBPD Officer Ejected after Motorcycle Accident in Santa Barbara

 
SANTA BARBARA, CA (July 2, 2020) – A Santa Barbara Police motorcycle officer sustained injuries following an accident on Foothill Road, Thursday afternoon.
 
According to the Santa Barbara Police Department, the incident happened at about 12:50 PM. The officer approached the intersection of Foothill Road and Alamar Avenue at about 30 to 35 mph. There, a westbound sedan made a left turn directly into the path of the officer.
 
The sedan and the motorcycle then collided in the 3000 block of Foothill Road. The impact of the collision ejected the officer from the motorcycle, flying over the sedan and landing near the driver’s door.
 
Emergency crews later transported the officer to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.
 
The driver of the sedan, identified as a woman in her 20s, remained at the scene. As per reports, the driver had a learner’s permit and was being observed by an adult male front passenger. Both occupants did not sustain injuries in the crash.
 
SBPD continues to investigate the crash. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
