One Dead in Hit-and-Run on Shields Avenue at Howard Avenue [FRESNO, CA]

Fresno Hit-and-Run Driver Sought by Authorities

 
FRESNO, CA (July 4, 2020) — One person died in a hit-and-run on Shields Avenue at Howard Avenue in Fresno Tuesday evening.
 
The California Highway Patrol said the 8:00 p.m. incident involved a 2001 silver Toyota Corolla and a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer.
 
Reports indicated that the Corolla was southbound on Howard Avenue. At the same time, the Blazer was eastbound on Shields Avenue approaching the intersection of Howard Avenue.
 
As the Blazer entered the intersection, the Corolla also entered into the intersection without yielding the right of way to the Blazer. The Corolla then rear-ended the Blazer, causing the latter to overturn at least three times.
 
The force of the impact ejected the 70-year-old man driving the Blazer. He landed on the roadway and suffered fatal injuries. First responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
 
Meanwhile, the Corolla driver did not stop and sped off towards southbound Howard Avenue.
 
The authorities have not located the hit-and-run driver. However, the investigators reportedly have recovered a possible license plate of the suspect vehicle. Anyone who has information regarding the case may call the Fresno Area CHP at (559) 262-0400.
