Two Killed after Lucerne Valley Head-On Accident near Custer Avenue

 
LUCERNE VALLEY, CA (July 6, 2020) — Two people died and several sustained injuries in a head-on collision on Highway 18 on Friday, July 3.
 
At about 6:44 a.m. Friday, San Bernardino County Fire rushed to a two-car traffic crash with extrication on Highway 18 near Custer Avenue.
 
For reasons still under investigation, a black 2006 Nissan Altima and an unknown type silver vehicle crashed head-on.
 
Upon arrival, firefighters pronounced two people dead at the scene. Then they asked for a helicopter for a patient with life-threatening injuries. A REACH helicopter h285 arrived and airlifted the patient to Loma Linda University Medical Center.
 
Several ambulances also responded for three other people with minor injuries.
 
CalTrans District 8 said the incident blocked the westbound lanes of Highway 18 for an unknown duration. The eastbound lanes have reopened.
 
California Highway Patrol is still investigating the official cause of the accident. No other information is available.
