50-Year-Old Man Dead in Pedestrian Crash on Mapleview Street near Ashwood Street [LAKESIDE, CA]

Lakeside Pedestrian Crash on Mapleview Street Turns Fatal

 
LAKESIDE, CA (July 2, 2020) – A 50-year-old man died in a pedestrian crash Thursday evening in Lakeside, authorities said.
 
The crash happened around 9:35 p.m. on Mapleview Street near Ashwood Street.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was crossing the street outside of a crosswalk when an eastbound Hyundai SUV approached. The victim did not yield to the vehicle, and instead stepped into the traffic lane in front of the oncoming car and was struck.
 
Arriving paramedics attempted saving the pedestrian, but he died at the scene.
 
The San Diego County Medical Examiners’ Office only identified the victim as a Lakeside resident. They will release his name once family members are properly notified.
 
The Hyundai driver, a 71-year-old man, stayed on scene and cooperated with the investigation. He and his passengers were not injured.
 
Investigators believe the driver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, but do suspect the use of alcohol or drugs by the pedestrian.
