One Killed in Head-On Crash on Highway 4 [Discovery Bay, CA]

At Least One Killed in Head-On Crash on Highway 4 and Discovery Bay Boulevard

 
DISCOVERY BAY, CA (July 3, 2020) – One person died in a head-on crash on Highway 4 and Discovery Bay Boulevard around 12:30 p.m. Thursday, July 2.
 
In the initial investigation, it appeared the male driver of the 2006 Pontiac moved westbound on Highway 4. Witnesses said the driver of the Pontiac drove within the right shoulder of the highway at excessive speeds at about 100 mph.
 
According to witnesses, the Pontiac lost control along the right shoulder dirt area. Then it veered across the westbound lanes of traffic and into the oncoming eastbound lane into the path of a Jeep driver. Subsequently, the driver of the Pontiac crashed head-on into the Jeep.
 
Upon emergency personnel and CHP arrival, they pronounced the solo male driver of a Pontiac sedan dead at the scene. The Contra Costa County Sheriff Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased male after notification of loved ones.
 
The adult male driver of the Jeep suffered minor injuries and was not transported to a hospital.
 
Officials are still investigating if alcohol or drugs contributed to this collision.
