Fatal Head-On Crash on Highway 4 in Discovery Bay

 
DISCOVERY BAY, CA (July 2, 2020) – A man was killed following a head-on crash Thursday afternoon in Discovery Bay, CHP officials said.
 
The crash happened around 12:28 p.m. on Highway 4, just west of Discovery Bay Boulevard.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2006 Pontiac sedan was traveling west on the highway at approximately 100 mph when it lost control in the dirt area on the right shoulder. It then veered across the westbound lanes of traffic and collided head-on into a Jeep that was heading east.
 
As a result, the Pontiac driver suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. His identity was not immediately available.
 
The driver of the Jeep sustained minor injuries.
 
The CHP said an autopsy will determined whether drugs or alcohol are involved but that there were no immediate signs of driving under the influence.
 
An investigation is ongoing. Authorities urged witnesses to call the CHP in Martinez at (925) 646-4980.
