Basketball Stars Georgia Salata and Amaya Payne recovering after Albuquerque Car Crash

 
ALBUQUERQUE, NM (July 3, 2020) — Six Rio Rancho High School basketball players including Georgia Salata and Amaya Payne were hurt in a car crash.
 
The horrific accident took place on Tramway Boulevard, near Academy Boulevard on Thursday, June 18.
 
The driver, Salata, had turned 16 one day before the crash when she received a car as a birthday present. Her passenger, Payne, was trapped in the wrecked vehicle for at least 30 minutes until firefighters freed her.
 
According to reports, two young men in another vehicle ran a red light and T-boned Salata’s car about 10:45 a.m. Thursday. Then they fled the scene.
 
Paramedics rushed Salata and Payne to the University of New Mexico Hospital.
 
According to Salata’s father on a Facebook post, his daughter had several injuries. She sustained four fractures in her neck, four fractures in her upper body, and 14 staples on the left side of her head. She went home Monday.
 
Payne’s mother said her daughter suffered three breaks in her right femur. She also broke her left foot and underwent 4½ hours of surgery on June 19. Her condition improved and she went home Tuesday.
