Driver and Dog Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on 15 Freeway [Ontario, CA]

Driver and Dog Dead after Ontario Wrong-Way Crash on 15 Freeway near 4th Street

 
ONTARIO, CA (July 2, 2020) – A driver and his dog were killed in a wrong-way crash on 15 Freeway in Ontario around 4:25 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1.
 
According to California Highway Patrol, a man around 35-years-old drove a GMC pick-up northbound in the southbound lanes of the 15 Freeway, north of 4th Street.
 
At this location, a semi-truck moving southbound on the freeway in the No. 4 lane tried to move into the No. 3 lane. Then he saw the approaching wrong-way driver in his path. The semi-truck driver was unable to prevent the crash and was sideswiped by the GMC pick-up.
 
After the crash, the wrong-way driver turned his GMC pick-up around and left the area moving southbound on 15 Freeway.
 
South of Jurupa Street, the driver of the GMC pick-up slammed with the center median, a concrete wall. After this second incident, the driver got out of his GMC pick-up while holding a dog. He then proceeded to jump over the center median to the northbound freeway.
 
However, a vehicle traveling northbound struck the driver and dog as they tried to run across traffic lanes, the CHP stated.
 
Ontario Fire Department personnel declared both the driver and dog dead at the scene. The identity of the driver is not yet available pending coroner notification.
