Afternoon Crash on 280 Freeway near Alpine Road Kills Driver

 
PORTOLA VALLEY, CA (June 29, 2020) – A woman was killed following a car crash Monday afternoon in Portola Valley, authorities said.
 
The crash happened around 2:34 p.m. on southbound 280 Freeway, just north of Alpine Road.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, a white Toyota Tundra was traveling southbound when it veered onto the right shoulder and up an embankment. It then hit a tree and came to rest back on the freeway.
 
The driver, a 23-year-old San Jose resident, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. She was the only occupant of the pickup truck.
 
Authorities did not release the identity of the woman pending notification of her family members.
 
Crews partially closed the freeway for a couple of hours while they cleared the crash site. All lanes were reopened around 5:30 p.m.
 
It is unknown if drugs and/or alcohol were contributing factors in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
