Richard Bianchi Killed in Rollover Crash on Highway 44 [OLD STATION, CA]

Prison Correctional Officer Dies after Car Overturns on Highway 44 in Old Station

 
OLD STATION, CA (June 25, 2020) – A prison correctional officer died following a rollover crash Thursday morning in unincorporated mountain community of Old Station.
 
The crash happened on Highway 44, about four miles east of Old Station Road. It occurred sometime overnight or during the early morning, but it was only reported around 5:23 a.m.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, 55-year-old Richard Bianchi was driving a white 2009 Chevrolet sedan westbound. For unknown reasons, he drifted off the right side of the roadway. After leaving the paved road onto a dirt shoulder, the sedan careened down a steep embankment and overturned.
 
Bianchi was ejected during the crash and died at the scene. He was on his way to provide hospital coverage at a Redding Hospital when the crash occurred.
 
Bianchi began his CDCR career in October, 2018, and was part of the High Desert State Prison (HDSP) family since February 4, 2011.
 
He is survived by his wife and two adult children.
