Unborn Baby Killed in Santa Ana Hit-and-Run Accident on First Street

SANTA ANA, CA (June 29, 2020) – An 8-month pregnant woman lost her unborn baby in a hit-and-run accident on First Street in Santa Ana on Friday, June 26.

Officers responded to the area of First Street and Lacy Streets shortly after 9:45 a.m. and discovered the crash, police stated.

Orange County firefighters gave medical aid to three injured people and took them to a local hospital. One of the passengers was the pregnant woman. She underwent emergency surgery. However, the unborn child did not survive.

Officials did not immediately disclose the conditions of the other two people who were hurt in the accident.

Investigators found out that one of the cars moved eastbound on First Street before it made a left turn toward northbound Lacy Street. The car was then struck by a second vehicle speeding westbound on First Street.

The two injured passengers in that car, including the pregnant woman, were in the back seat, Santa Ana Police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna. Medics also rushed the driver of the other vehicle, a woman, to the hospital.

The driver of the speeding vehicle left the area on foot before police arrived. They are still searching for the driver that fled.

Authorities urge any person with information about the incident can call Investigator Cpl. Danny Carrillo at 714-245-8208.

Our deepest condolences remain with the family and friends of the deceased as they try to piece together what happened.
