Veronica Rojas Killed in Pursuit Crash on East Avenue S [PALMDALE, CA]

Authorities Identifies Pedestrian Killed after Pursuit Crash on East Avenue S near Sierra Highway

 
PALMDALE, CA (June 24, 2020) – Authorities identified a pedestrian who died following a pursuit crash Wednesday evening in Palmdale.
 
The fatal crash happened around 7:50 p.m. on East Avenue S near Sierra Highway.
 
The sheriff’s department said deputies initially pursued a black SUV carrying six teens in connection with a felony suspect who was considered armed and dangerous. However, deputies called off the chase because of the suspect’s high speed.
 
Shortly after, the suspect crashed the vehicle on a bike path near the intersection, hitting the pedestrian.
 
As a result, the pedestrian, 65-year-old Veronica Rojas of Palmdale, died at the scene.
 
Deputies arrested the juvenile SUV driver. The others were detained.
 
Further investigation is underway.
