Steven Riggs Injured in Car Crash on Highway 120 [Waterford, CA]

Steven Riggs Rescued by Stanislaus Deputy and Good Samaritan

 
WATERFORD, CA (June 25, 2020) – A Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputy and a witness saved the life of Modesto resident Steven Riggs after a rollover crash.
 
The collision happened around 2:40 p.m. Sunday, June 21, when for undetermined reasons Riggs’ vehicle went off Highway 108-120 near Willms Road. Then it rolled over as went down an embankment and caught fire.
 
Deputy Saul McNaul, who was patrolling in the area, noticed the incident. He quickly climbed over a gate and ran toward the crashed truck, which was on its side. A witness, John Phelps, already reached Riggs and tried to help him out.
 
From the rear window, the men were able to pull Riggs from the truck. They were able to extricate him about a minute after McNaul joined Phelps is working to free him.
 
Shortly afterward, a Cal Fire crew on scene gave medical aid to Riggs. Then they rushed him to a local hospital.
 
California Highway Patrol Modesto-area spokesman Thomas Olsen plans to hold a news conference at the CHP office in Modesto to acknowledge the actions of Phelps and McNaul.
