Mark Alarcon Killed in Crash on 280 Freeway [WOODSIDE, CA]

Freeway Service Patrol Driver Dies after Struck by Lumber Truck on 280 Freeway in Woodside

 
WOODSIDE, CA (June 23, 2020) – A Freeway Service Patrol driver who died in a crash Tuesday afternoon on 280 Freeway in Woodside has been identified by the San Mateo County coroner’s office as Mark Alarcon, 61, of Dublin.
 
The crash happened around 3:40 p.m. on southbound 280 Freeway between Farm Hill Boulevard and Edgewood Road.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, a lumber truck was traveling south when it left the roadway and struck the Freeway Service Patrol truck and Alarcon.
 
As a result, Alarcon suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
 
The lumber truck driver remained on scene and cooperated with authorities.
 
The FSP helps during commute hours by providing gas and other services to people who need it. The services are paid by the state of California.
 
Officials said impairment does not appear to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
