Man Fatally Struck by Semi-Truck on Highway 99 [Fowler, CA]

Man Struck and Killed by Semi-Truck on Highway 99 and Manning Avenue

 
FOWLER, CA (June 24, 2020) – A 49-year-old man was fatally struck by a semi-truck on Highway 99 near Selma at around 11 p.m. on Monday, June 22.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, officers rushed to southbound Highway 99 and Manning Avenue, just north of Highway 43.
 
CHP officers stated the semi struck the pedestrian who was in one of the southbound lanes. The man died at the scene, and his identity was not available.
 
Investigators are trying to determine why the man was in the roadway.
 
CHP Sgt. Jeff Cipolla said they found a car on the opposite side of the freeway that had been in a very minor collision. The vehicle was unoccupied when officers arrived. They are still investigating whether that driver was the pedestrian who died.
 
The driver of the semi-truck did not sustain injuries in the collision.
 
Officials closed the traffic on the southbound lanes of the highway around 11:30 from Highway 43 in Selma to Manning Avenue. It reopened at 1:30 am. The northbound traffic was not affected.
