65-Year-Old Woman Killed in High-Speed Pursuit near East Avenue S and 14 Freeway [PALMDALE, CA]

High-Speed Pursuit near East Avenue S Ends in Crash Killing a Pedestrian

 
[PALMDALE, CA (June 24, 2020) – A 65-year-old woman died following a high-speed pursuit Wednesday evening in Palmdale.
 
The crash happened around 7:50 p.m. near East Avenue S and 14 Freeway.
 
The sheriff’s department said deputies initially pursued a black SUV carrying six teens in connection with a felony suspect who was considered armed and dangerous. However, deputies called off the chase because the driver was speeding dangerously.
 
Shortly after, the vehicle went out of control, jumped the curb and struck the woman who was walking her dog on a bike path. It then crashed into the cinder block wall and overturned on its side.
 
As a result, the unidentified woman died at the scene. The dog ran away.
 
Police arrested the juvenile SUV driver. The others were detained. Several of them may have been hurt in the crash, but the nature of their injuries were not confirmed.
 
Investigators are looking further into this tragic crash.
