4 Crew Members Injured in Accident on Highway 178 [Bakersfield, CA]
Bakersfield Homeless Center Highway Cleanup Crew Injured after Accident on Highway 178
BAKERSFIELD, CA (June 23, 2020) – Four workers of the Bakersfield Homeless Center’s highway cleanup crew sustained injuries in an accident on Highway 178, late Tuesday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened shortly before noon. A cleanup crew was picking up trash alongside the highway with a Caltrans truck following behind them. For unknown reasons, another vehicle veered off the road and struck the Caltrans truck. The vehicle then hit the workers.
Emergency crews transported all workers to Kern Medical. As per reports, one worker sustained major injuries and two other workers suffered minor to moderate injuries. The driver of the Caltrans truck complained of pain.
Officers confirmed that the driver of the second vehicle remained and cooperated with investigators.
CHP continues to investigate the crash. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
