Suspected DUI Driver Hits and Kills Elva Andrade, Injures 7-Year-Old Girl
OXNARD, CA (June 24, 2020) – A 55-year-old woman died and a seven-year-old girl sustained injuries in an alleged DUI crash in Oxnard Monday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened at about 9:15 p.m. on East Pleasant Valley Road near Laguna Road.
55-year-old Elva Andrade of Camarillo was riding a Yamaha scooter with a seven-year-old girl riding at the back as a passenger. At the same time, 21-year-old Jacob A. Caliboso of Oxnard was driving an Acura sedan and then crossed over the double yellow lines, colliding head-on with the scooter.
The force of the impact ejected both Andrade and her passenger from the scooter. Andrade died at the scene, while the girl suffered major injuries. She was transported to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment.
Meanwhile, the authorities said there were signs that Caliboso was driving under the influence at the time of the crash. They arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and felony gross vehicular manslaughter.
This fatal crash remains under investigation.
