Fatal Pedestrian Crash on Highway 99 at Manning Avenue

 
FOWLER, CA (June 22, 2020) – A 49-year-old man was killed following a pedestrian crash late Monday evening in Fresno County.
 
The crash happened around 11:00 p.m. on southbound Highway 99 at Manning Avenue, just north of Highway 43.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was driving his car on Highway 99 when he crashed into a center divider for unknown reasons. He exited his vehicle and ran across the highway when a big rig struck him.
 
Deputies arrived and pronounced the man dead at the scene. They did not release the victim’s name pending next of kin notification.
 
The driver of the big rig was unharmed.
 
Officials closed the southbound lanes of Highway 99 for several hours as they examined the scene. All lanes were reopened around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.
 
Investigators are working to determine why the man was in the roadway.
