Armando Benavidez Killed in Wrong-Way Accident on 10 Freeway [Deming, NM]

Armando Benavidez Dies after Head-On Collision in Deming

 
DEMING, NM (June 20, 2020) – Authorities identified 80-year-old Armando Benavidez of Deming as the driver killed in a crash on 10 Freeway, Saturday.
 
According to the New Mexico State Police, the incident happened at mile marker 83. Due to unknown circumstances, a 2016 Nissan truck was eastbound in the westbound lanes of 10 Freeway. Then, it collided head-on with a 2020 Kenworth tractor-trailer. A short time later, a 2018 Volvo tractor-trailer also hit the Nissan.
 
Emergency responders pronounced the Nissan driver, Benavidez, dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the drivers of the tractor-trailers did not sustain injuries in the crash.
 
NMSP ruled out alcohol as a factor in the fatal crash. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
