Scott Burtness Killed in Motorcycle Accident on Red Mountain Road [Hemet, CA]

Scott Burtness Fatally Injured after Motorcycle Accident

 
HEMET, CA (June 22, 2020) — A 32-year-old motorcyclist, identified as Scott Burtness of Menifee, died in a crash with a pickup truck on Saturday, June 20.
 
According to CHP Officer Mike Lassig, around 7:40 a.m., an 84-year-old man drove a 2001 Dodge Ram with a utility trailer north on Red Mountain Road. Then it began to turn left onto Cougar Road, a dirt road near the community of Sage, at a speed of approximately 5 mph.
 
While the pickup truck driver made the turn, Burtness was on a 2020 KTM Adventurer motorcycle moving the opposite direction on Red Mountain Road. He came around a curve just as the Ram and trailer pulled into his direction.
 
Lassig said because of the motorcyclist’s speed, the rider was unable to stop in time. Burtness sustained major injuries when the impact ejected him from his bike. He died at the scene.
 
CHP officers are still investigating the incident, Lassig said.
