Steward Helmer Arrested for DUI After Fatal Pedestrian Crash in Redding

 
REDDING, CA (June 20, 2020) – A 61-year-old man died in a pedestrian accident on Highway 273 Wednesday night in Redding.
 
The Shasta County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 61-year-old Murray Roseberry of Redding.
 
The collision happened at about 10:50 p.m. near Breslauer Way. Based on a preliminary investigation, an SUV pulling a boat struck Roseberry.
 
The SUV driver, Steward Helmer of Anderson, stopped and pulled to the side of the road to check if the man was okay. He then called 911 to report the incident.
 
An ambulance transported Roseberry to Mercy Medical Center. However, he later succumbed to his injuries.
 
Meanwhile, the investigators determined that Helmer showed signs of intoxication. They arrested and booked him into the Shasta County Jail for felony DUI and manslaughter.
