Ferndale Bicyclist Christine Seyl Killed in Collision with Car

 
FERNDALE, WA (June 22, 2020) – A 71-year-old woman died in a bicycle accident on Slater Road in Ferndale Thursday afternoon.
 
The authorities have identified the cyclist who died as Christine Seyl.
 
According to them, the Whatcom County Sheriff initially received a report about the accident at 2:24 p.m. At around 2:36 p.m., they requested the Washington State Patrol troopers to respond to the scene.
 
A WSP investigation revealed that a tan 2009 Honda Accord was headed east on Slater Road when Seyl, who rode a bicycle, came into the roadway in front of the car. The two vehicles collided, causing Seyl fatal injuries. She was wearing a helmet, the troopers said.
 
The woman driving the Honda did not have any injuries from the crash. She was identified as 70-year-old Debra Ludtke of Ferndale.
 
The officials had Slater Road closed while crews cleared up the scene. The roadway reopened at about 6:00 p.m.
 
Further investigation of the crash is underway.
