Pileup Crash on 5 Freeway at El Toro Road Leaves One Dead
LAKE FOREST, CA (June 20, 2020) – One person died following a pileup crash Saturday afternoon in Lake Forest.
The crash happened around 12:44 p.m. on southbound 5 Freeway at El Toro Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, five vehicles collided in the first and HOV lanes of the freeway. One party wanted to jump in front of traffic.
Emergency personnel arrived and pronounced one person dead at the scene. The identity of the victim was not immediately available.
It is unknown if there were other injuries sustained.
CHP officials issued a traffic alert in the area, closing several freeway lanes until before 3:00 p.m. while they examined the scene.
It is still unclear what lead up to the crash. Investigators are still working on the incident to determine the factors involved and liability.
