Fatal Bicycle Crash on Highway 32 at Meridian Road

CHICO, CA (June 20, 2020) – A man was killed following a bicycle crash Saturday morning in Chico, CHP officials said.

The crash happened around 9:42 a.m. on Highway 32 at Meridian Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was riding his bicycle northbound on Meridian Road and did not stop at the stop sign while crossing the intersection. A 2003 Dodge pickup truck traveling westbound on Highway 32 was unable to take evasive action and hit the bicyclist.

The bicyclist was killed upon impact. Authorities did not release his identity pending notification of next of kin.

It is unknown if the pickup truck driver remained or fled the scene after the crash.

CHP officials are still trying to determine if drugs and/or alcohol were factors in the crash. An investigation is underway.
