Deadly Motorcycle Crash at West Hawthorne Street and Union Street

 
EUREKA, CA (June 18, 2020) – A man was killed in a motorcycle crash Thursday evening at an intersection in Eureka, police said.
 
The crash happened just before 8:00 p.m. at West Hawthorne Street and Union Street.
 
According to police, a Suzuki motorcycle was traveling north on Union Street at a high rate of speed. At the same time, a silver van was crossing Union Street. Due to the excessive speeds of the motorcycle, the motorcyclist was unable to avoid colliding with the van.
 
First responders found the rider unresponsive in the roadway. They immediately attempted life-saving procedures, including CPR. The man was then taken to the hospital, but he was pronounced dead a short time later.
 
The Humboldt County Coroner’s office did not release the identity of the victim pending notification of next of kin.
 
Meanwhile, the driver of the van was also transported by ambulance to St. Joseph’s ER with unspecified injuries.
