Robert Schlimmer Injured in Big Rig Crash on Highway 101 [Crescent City, CA]

Robert Schlimmer Injured after Convertible Crashed with Big Rig on Highway 101

 
CRESCENT CITY, CA (June 19, 2020) — A 70-year-old man identified as Robert Schlimmer, of Bookings, sustained injuries in an accident on Thursday, June 18.
 
The collision took place Highway 101 near the Last Chance Grade construction zone shortly after 11:00 a.m.
 
The crash happened when Schlimmer drove his 1974 MG MGB convertible southbound on Highway 101 and approached milepost marker 15.76. At the same time, Henry Mitchell, 66, of Blue Lake, was stopped for traffic in his 2020 Freightliner and semi-trailer at milepost marker 15.76.
 
As the convertible approached the big rig, Schlimmer was unable to stop his vehicle to crash with the rear of the big rig’s trailer.
 
CHP and other emergency personnel responded on the scene and provided medical aid. They transported Schlimmer to Sutter Coast Hospital for further treatment of major injuries.
 
Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to have contributed to the collision. This incident is still under investigation by the Crescent City CHP office.
 
A dog was also involved in the crash and has reportedly been taken to a local veterinarian.
