Man Fatally Struck by Amtrak Train near Grand Avenue [Carlsbad Village, CA]

Pedestrian Struck, Killed by Train near Grand Avenue and Washington Street

 
CARLSBAD VILLAGE, CA (June 15, 2020) – A man was struck and killed by an Amtrak Train near Grand Avenue and Washington Street, Monday afternoon.
 
According to the San Diego Sheriff’s Department, the incident happened at about 2:45 PM. For unknown reasons, a man walked onto the tracks and stood facing the train. When the engineer sounded a warning horn, the man did not move. Then, the southbound train hit the pedestrian.
 
Emergency responders pronounced the man dead at the scene. Authorities withheld the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
 
According to the North County Transit District, several Coaster trains were canceled or delayed throughout Monday afternoon and evening.
 
The sheriff’s department’s transit enforcement unit continues to investigate the cause of the crash. Anyone with information should call the department’s non-emergency line at (858) 565-5200. Authorities will release additional details once they become available.
