Woman Killed in Pedestrian Crash on Highway 138 near Lone Pine Canyon Road [PHELAN, CA]

Fatal Pedestrian Crash on Highway 138 near Lone Pine Canyon Road

 
PHELAN, CA (June 17, 2020) – A woman died in a pedestrian crash early Wednesday morning in Phelan, authorities said.
 
The crash happened around 3:46 a.m. on Highway 138 near Lone Pine Canyon Road.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 20-year-old Phelan man was driving a black 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe eastbound on Highway 138 at approximately 60 mph. For unknown reasons, he struck a female pedestrian that was running within the first lane of the highway.
 
Responding firefighters pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.
 
The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office only identified the victim as a 25-year-old Hemet resident. They did not release her name pending family notification.
 
Crews temporarily closed the first and second lanes of eastbound Highway 138 while they worked on the scene. All lanes were reopened just before 5:45 a.m.
 
The fatal incident is still under investigation. Authorities asked anyone with information to contact Officer M. Carrillo at the San Bernardino CHP Office at (909) 383-4247.
