Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Car on Highway 138 [Phelan, CA]

Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Vehicle on Highway 138 near Lone Pine Canyon Road

 
PHELAN, CA (June 18, 2020) — A pedestrian was fatally struck and killed on Highway 138 around 3:46 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17.
 
The California Highway Patrol said that first responders responded to a vehicle versus a pedestrian accident on Highway 138 near Lone Pine Canyon Road.
 
According to CHP officials, a 20-year-old Phelan resident drove a black 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe eastbound on Highway 138, east of Mantoya Drive. The vehicle moved at about 60 mph when it struck a female pedestrian that was running within the no. 1 lane.
 
San Bernardino County Firefighters rushed to the area and pronounced the female deceased at the scene.
 
The pedestrian is a 25-year-old female resident of Hemet.  San Bernardino County Coroner’s office has not yet released her identity pending next of kin notification.
 
The incident caused the temporary closure of the eastbound lanes No. 1 and 2 of the highway. All lanes reopened just before 5:45 a.m.
