Passenger Dies in Fiery Crash on Mission Avenue in Oceanside
OCEANSIDE, CA (June 17, 2020) – One person was killed following a fiery crash Wednesday morning in Oceanside, police said.
The crash happened around 11:00 a.m. on Mission Avenue at Airport Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a sedan was speeding on the roadway when it made a sudden lane change. It then rear-ended a Pepsi delivery truck that was parked with its hazard lights activated. The impact caused the sedan to burst into flames.
Responding firefighters had to pull out two people from the burning car. Paramedics then rushed both the driver and the passenger to a hospital.
Despite life-saving efforts, the passenger did not survive and was declared dead. His name has been withheld pending notification of his family members.
Meanwhile,the driver was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
CHP officials said alcohol may be a factor in the crash, which is still under investigation.
