Scooter Crash on Silver Lake Boulevard in Los Angeles Leaves 1 Dead and 2 Injured
LOS ANGELES, CA (June 17, 2020) – A man was killed following a scooter crash Wednesday morning in Los Angeles.
The crash happened around 11:00 a.m. in the 1300 block of Silver Lake Boulevard near Effie Street.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Ford Explorer was traveling the wrong way at a high rate of speed when it struck a man on a Vespa-style scooter. It then pushed the moped off the side of the road into some fixtures, before landing in front of the L&E Oyster Bar building.
The scooter rider, a man in his 50s, died upon impact. His identity was not immediately available pending family notification.
Firefighters extricated two people who were trapped inside the Explorer. Paramedics then took a 72-year-old woman and a 52-year-old man to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Inspectors were called out to check the structural integrity of the building.
Police did not say if speed, drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
