SUV Plunges Off Carquinez Bridge Killing Four People

 
CROCKETT, CA (June 16, 2020) – Four people died after a car plunged off the Carquinez Bridge Tuesday evening in Crockett.
 
Around 8:40 p.m., an Infiniti SUV entered the Carquinez Bridge when it began skidding as it moved from the far left lane. It spun out across all lanes and over the railing.
 
The SUV then plunged about 15 stories, struck a parked freight train before hitting the ground.
 
As a result, all four occupants in the SUV were pronounced dead at the scene.
 
The Contra Costa County coroner identified the victims on Wednesday night as Perla Navarro, 19, of Richmond; Kyle Erickson, 19, of Pittsburg; Christopher Mota, 21, of Rodeo; and Cecilia Ayala, 22, of Hayward.
 
It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash. The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office will perform the autopsies.
 
Several lanes of the bridge were closed as investigators processed the scene. All lanes including the Pomona Street off-ramp, reopened just before 10:30 p.m.
