Ann Diaz Killed in Rollover Crash on 14 Freeway [SANTA CLARITA, CA]

Valencia Woman Dies after Car Overturns on 14 Freeway near Newhall Avenue

 
SANTA CLARITA, CA (June 16, 2020) – A woman was killed following a rollover crash Tuesday evening in Santa Clarita.
 
The crash happened around 9:05 p.m. on 14 Freeway near the Newhall Avenue off-ramp.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, a gray Toyota SUV was traveling erratically at approximately 90 mph on northbound 14 Freeway. It then sideswiped a GMC before exiting at Newhall Avenue.
 
The Toyota then failed to negotiate the curvature of the roadway. It continued without braking and overturned about 150 feet before hitting a dirt field.
 
As a result, the Toyota driver suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. She was pinned in the driver’s seat and was extricated by firefighters.
 
The coroner’s office identified the deceased as Ann Catherine Diaz, 57, of Valencia. She was not properly wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash.
 
Police closed down the Newhall Avenue exit of the northbound 14 freeway while they investigated the crash.
 
Speed appears to be a factor in the crash, and Diaz’s impairment is pending a toxicology report from the Coroner, according to CHP officials.
