Michelle Leon Killed in Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Crash on Markham Street [PERRIS, CA]

Woman and Horse Dead in Perris Hit-and-Run Crash on Markham Street near Hallet Street

 
PERRIS, CA (June 14, 2020) – A woman who died in a pedestrian hit-and-run crash Sunday evening in Perris has been identified as 18-year-old Michelle Leon of Riverside.
 
The fatal incident happened around 9:15 p.m. in the 20790 block of Markham Street near Hallett Street.
 
According to the reports, Leon, along with a 19-year-old Riverside woman, a juvenile, and a horse were in the area when a 1998-2002 gold Nissan Pathfinder heading westbound on Markham Street plowed into them.
 
First responders tried to save Leon, but she died at the scene.
 
The 19-year-old woman suffered life-threatening injuries. The juvenile had minor injuries. Paramedics took them to a hospital for proper treatment.
 
CHP officials also said the crash also injured a horse, which was later euthanized due to its injuries.
 
The involved driver fled the scene and continued westbound on Markham Street. The Nissan is likely missing a front grille, a front fender flare, and has a broken right headlight.
 
Authorities asked anyone with information on that vehicle or the hit-and-run driver to call the Riverside CHP office at 951-637-8000.
