Deadly Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Crash near Avenue 66 in Mecca

 
MECCA, CA (June 13, 2020) – A man died in a pedestrian hit-and-run crash Saturday evening in Mecca, authorities said.
 
The crash happened around 9:00 a.m. near Avenue 66 and Date Palm Street.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was lying on the right shoulder and appeared to have been struck by a vehicle. They also found the man’s hat and other belongings strewn across the roadway.
 
Arriving units pronounced the man dead at the scene. The identity of the victim was not immediately available.
 
The involved vehicle was not found at the scene, but pieces of it were scattered in the area.
 
Authorities are still searching for the suspect and investigating the cause of the crash.
